Elantris, the greatest city in the world. A huge metropolis filled with magic and magic users, spanning for miles and miles. Broad new horizons were explored, and the exact understanding of magic and reality was honed into greater detail every day. And then five years ago, it all came tumbling down.
The Crash. A huge arcane shockwave went off in the city. The blast rushed across the whole world. The wave or malignant arcane power outright killed 1/3 people it swept across. Another 1/4 were twisted by it, warped into monsters and fiends, foul creatures that proceeded to attack and slaughter survivors of which many rose again in a perversion of unlife. An even smaller number of people found themselves with new powers and abilities or lost those they already had. Additionally The Crash warped the land itself, oceans rose and fell, huge mountains cracked up around the magic city. Leaving it surrounded on all sides by jagged peaks, save for one broad slice, a cut in the earth from the edge of the doomed city, to the ocean.
Crowstown was built at the entrance to through those looming mountains. Originally a military fort, built to keep the monsters from surging forth into the world. It now serves as residence for all those who wish to enter the magical necropolis. Everyone has their own reasons for traveling into the city. To secure magical weapons to fight the growing monster population. To attain the untold riches possessed by the city's previous inhabitants, to understand why The Crash occurred, or to gain that terrible power for themselves.
This game will be using the
Savage World Deluxe rules for mechanics. Its very simple and streamlined system, and reflects how dangerous the combat can be. That being said, the focus of the game will be on exploration and discovery of the ruined city, while at the same time navigating the NPCs and politics of Crowstown.
I'm not sure what the interest will be, since its a mechanics system most haven't used before. That being said, I'm DM'ing this same setting for a face to face game, so I plan to learn from successes and failures both here and there to make both better.
Here is a link to my player's guide. Which has more background information, more information about the various factions of Crowstown, as well as rules for character creation.
