I myself am not running a Hero game, it's Pathfinder, however Jim Mills is running Solo: Chicago which is a Hero game.

RocETer is running Galaxies Edge which is a Star Hero game.

I know both are accepting new players, so I say contact either of the GM's. I'm in both games and both are pretty good.

Hero Central had a General Messages Board where any and all topics were discussed, sometimes including a GM and Players posting what a game was about, looking for players, players asking questions, etc.  A lot of times there were non-game-related topics, but sometimes a GM would say he was seeking players, what his game was all about, etc.  Just to mention this, in reference to the above quote.

Yes, but my point was that HC did not have a single thread or board dedicated to such a thing. You had to use the general boards for it, and they were very public, or private messages for it, if you wanted it to be private.

General Discussion / Re: Where to store PC's and NPC's
« on: February 02, 2013, 12:36:26 pm »
The forum does have a download/upload ability accessable to all users. It's up at the top under the Downloads link.

Downside, everyone can access it. I am looking for an add-on to use so the individuals can have thier own FTP space.

gmail's gdrive can upload a variety of formats including various office formats. Only issue I have seen is smoe things formatted will not save the exact format on gdrive.

My forum here doesn't have that issue. I can also make it so each game has it's own downloads board accessable by people in that game only.

Making personal FTP space though seems a bit difficult ATM, but I am looking for a mod that allows it.

- Not sure what you mean by a default editor. The stuff you can do in a post here, without resorting to HTML or inputting B Code yourself, is pretty powerful. What do you mean here?

- There already is a listing of games ran on the forum, as well as their GM and the game system used. It's at the bottom of the portal page, which can be accessed by clicking Home up above.

- Thats what the player recruitment threads are for as well as discussion. Hero Central did not have such a thread to discuss a game before joining it, that was done in PM's. RPol doesn't either. I figure, the same can work here. No need to make a board for every game to discuss it before people join, it would clutter things. Plus, a lot of people, myself being one, would rather discuss the game they migh be joining in private with the GM.

- Already done. Simple Machine Forums using the standard BB code used by all BB's. There is a uniform standard. In the FAQ post I even provided a link to the BB code.

- I would prefer FAQ requests be sent to me privately. I am trying to reduce clutter. Not sure why we would need a board for me to shoot down one person just so I can accept another's requests. Plus a FAQ is not about requests, its about informing people about how to do many things that are commonly asked about. FAQ's are a pool of questions commonly asked, their purpose is to answer the same question you were about to ask before you even ask it. They are not meant for you to ask questions. Generally anyone who has a question about the forum asks me directly, cause I'm always online in some form and easily found. A lot of the current FAQ posts I made are derived from those questions. And a few others have posted questions in the General Discussion board. Honestly, for now, I'd like to keep it that way. I tend to be a hands on type of guy.

All good idea's though Shadow, keep it up. :)

If you have just joined the forum and decided to join the Lurker Member Group to view the boards for the games on the forum then what it does is make the Lurker Member Group your primary member group. What this does is stop your ability to post on the forums. The way arround this issue is to go back into your profile where you joined the Lurker Member Group, look where it says Current Membergroups and your should see two groups there, Registered Members and Lurker. Select the little bubble to the left of Registered Members, then click the Make Primary Group button just below and to the right of the listing of your groups.

This will resolve your issue and you will be able to post to the General Category.

Players Looking for Games Board / Re: looking for a game
« on: January 22, 2013, 11:23:21 pm »
Yea, that is a failing on my part. If you look on the Home page, at the bottom, there is a list of all games on the forum, thier GM's, and the game system they use there.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / What is BBCode?
« on: January 20, 2013, 07:00:48 pm »
BBCode is the code you can use to enhance your posts. It is much like HTML code in many ways, but lacks a lot of the functionality of HTML. To know which BBCode's you can use on the forum, and what they do, follow this link: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Alphabetical_list_of_all_bulletin_board_codes

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Can I lurk other games?
« on: January 20, 2013, 03:42:19 pm »
Yes you can lurk all games on the forum, or none of the games. To lurk other games on the forum I setup a member group called "Lurker'. What this membergroup does is allow you to view, but not post to, all of the games on the forum that you are not involved in.

To join the Lurker member group you have to first click the Profile link, then mouse over Modify Profile and select Group Membership in the menu that pops up, then under available groups find Lurker and click the Join Group link.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Can I roll dice in the chat room?

Sadly, as far as I know, no you cannot.

As many of you have noticed on several posts appears a thumb tack, or , what this means is that the topic is stickied and will therefore always appear at the top of the message board.

As many of you have also noticed on several posts appears a padlock, or , what this means is that the topic is locked and therefore no more replies can be made to it.

These icons can be scene in two places on the board for a topic. In the left column that is nothing but icons. You will notice that they are all bundled together there, and could look something like this for a post that's both locked and stickied .

The other place you will see them is in the Subject column, and there you will see them individually side by side.

There are many other icons you might see in the two left most column of the board, but most of those are self explanatory.

Everyone this board is for you all to let me know any new features you would like to see on the forum, or for me to let you all know about new features I have installed. SimpleMachines forums have a lot of functionality that can be added to them that improves both their performance and what you can do with them. So adding more functionality to them is quit easy, its all just a matter of finding a mod.

Now, before anyone asks, limited visibility posts is not possible. I'm sorry. No one has created that mod yet, and I lack the time myself to create one. I apologize for that inconvenience.

Beyond that, below you will find links to the main mod sites I use to enhance our forum. If you all happen to see one that you think might be good, feel free to open up a topic about it for everyone to see and discuss it.

Thanks,
Kyper

New or Desired Features / Topic Descriptions Mod.
« on: January 19, 2013, 06:57:13 pm »
I have discovered a mod that will allow topic descriptions for your topics you start. What it does is add another field while you make a new topic called descriptions. When you fill out this field it will show up in the Message Board telling you whats in that field. The benefit this will have for everyone is that you will be able to list who is in the scene so everyone knows if they are in that scene or not without having to open the topic. This should save your players considerable time by allowing them to see if they are a part of a scene before they open the topic.

I will be installing this mod tomorrow after I do the forum update.

You can view what the mod does here: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3012

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / How do you quote another persons post?
« on: January 18, 2013, 05:05:35 pm »
To quote another persons post simply click on the "Quote" button to the right of the title. Doing so will bring about the posting page with the post you are quoting inside of quote tags already.

If you wish to quote multiple posts you will need to type in the quote tags yourself, and cut and paste the other posts you also wish to quote into those tags.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / How do you edit a post?

The best way to modify your post so that you have all the functionality involved in posting is to use the "Modify" button to the right of the posts title.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / How do you roll dice?
« on: January 18, 2013, 04:39:25 pm »
There are two ways to roll dice on the forum.

You can use the dice button which is the 4th button from the right, looks like a D6. The problem with this button is it only posts the right side tag. So you will have to close out the tag yourself.

The best way to roll dice on the forum is to simply type the tags yourself. They are roll inside of [] and /roll inside of [] to close it out. In between the two tags you simply type the number and type of dice you wish to roll. Ex: 3d6.

Ex 2:
Rolled 3d6 : 4, 4, 6, total 14

With this you can roll any number of dice sides so it will work for any game system.

Ex 3:
Rolled 1d100 : 91, total 91

Ex 4:
Rolled 1d20 : 13, total 13

Also you can also add large modifiers to your roll. Ex: D20 games tend to have modifiers as high as +10 or more when you get higher levels.

Ex 5:
Rolled 1d20+10 : 10 + 10, total 20

Normally the dice roller will add the word 'Rolled' in front, but you can can customise this by adding a word or phrase inside curly brackets {}. For example:
Freezing 1d10 : 3, total 3

Fire 1d20 : 6, total 6

You can also get the dice roller to roll multiple by times by adding xnumber:
Rolled 2d6 : 3, 5, total 8
Rolled 2d6 : 2, 4, total 6
Rolled 2d6 : 4, 5, total 9

Lastly, it's difficult to tamper with rolls. If you do you end up with something like this.

Ex 6: This dice roll has been tampered with!
Rolled 1d20+10 : 6 + 10, total 16

There is other functionality that can be done with the die roller. I simply included the most relevant ones here. If you wish to see what else it can do you'll find it's other functionality outlined here: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2032

That's all there is to it.

PS: Thank you AK for finding the the last two items I listed. :)
