Players Looking for Games Board / Re: looking for a game

Yea, that is a failing on my part. If you look on the Home page, at the bottom, there is a list of all games on the forum, thier GM's, and the game system they use there.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / What is BBCode?
« Last post by Kyper on January 20, 2013, 07:00:48 pm »
BBCode is the code you can use to enhance your posts. It is much like HTML code in many ways, but lacks a lot of the functionality of HTML. To know which BBCode's you can use on the forum, and what they do, follow this link: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Alphabetical_list_of_all_bulletin_board_codes

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Can I lurk other games?
« Last post by Kyper on January 20, 2013, 03:42:19 pm »
Yes you can lurk all games on the forum, or none of the games. To lurk other games on the forum I setup a member group called "Lurker'. What this membergroup does is allow you to view, but not post to, all of the games on the forum that you are not involved in.

To join the Lurker member group you have to first click the Profile link, then mouse over Modify Profile and select Group Membership in the menu that pops up, then under available groups find Lurker and click the Join Group link.

New Game Board / Solo Chicago
« Last post by Jim Mills on January 20, 2013, 10:00:10 am »
Solo Chicago

Welcome to Solo Chicago, a mostly one-on-one role playing game using Hero System 5th edition rules.

Ground rules: We want this game to be a cross between 4-color with only some shades of gray. Heroes are truly heroic, villains don't go around killing willy-nilly. They're more interested in embarrassing the hero (and sometimes killing him/her).

Morality: Shades of gray give rise to doubt and conflict.  Moral choices can be difficult, but are sometimes clear as well.  This is somewhere between 4-color and Dark Champions, not too gritty, but not white-hats vs. dark-hats.  PCs may be vigilantes or true heroes... that is largely up to the Players.

Realism: This campaign will not be totally realistic (people have super powers, after all), but character actions will have effects on the story, how media, people and politicians react to said actions, etc.  Otoh, some things may be forgiven heroes who obviously have saved many lives, prevented destruction of the city, and so on.

Outlook and Seriousness: Somewhere between positive and negative.  The Characters can and do make a difference in the world by their actions, and those actions do often have repercussions.  The game may have some comic elements to amuse Players and GMs, but overall the character actions are serious.  People get hurt when thugs hold up stores with guns... or when supers use powers to rob and steal or to try to grab power over others.  Sometimes hero-villain conflicts have casualties on the sidelines, innocent bystanders, etc.  Otoh, occasional comic relief may be thrown into the mix for a touch of lightheartedness.

Tone: There will be some very serious situations and moral quandaries thrown in for the enjoyment of both the Players and the GMs.

Importance of the Player Characters: This depends on how you build and play your Character.  PCs may be very important... or not.

See our web site: http://pyre.weebly.com for background information, character-building guidelines, house rules, etc.  Power levels may vary (250, 350 or 450... Player's choice), but keep in mind that the NPCs and villains vary, too.  Some are more powerful than others, but most are 450.  Know your limits.  A 250-point Character does not do well taking on Dr. Death one-on-one.  Most 600-point Characters have trouble taking on Dr. Death (he is the game's BIG Super-Bad-Guy... think Dr. Destroyer... well over 1,000 points.  Avoid if possible.).  For the most part, we GMs will try to keep the less powerful heroes matched with lower-powered villains and not have you running up against NPCs who are a very many points above your character... at least, not usually (If you see Dr. Death, it is best to hide or run.).

Questions?  Send an email to Jim at james DOT k DOT mills AT gmail DOT com (please make appropriate changes for AT and DOT and remove all spaces from the email address.  And please do not put my address on any visible bulk or mass email lists.  Thanks!).

Or you may send me a Private Message (PM) here at Kyper.net.  I usually check in here daily, plus the system emails me when I have a new PM waiting for me to read it..

Welcome to the madness.  :)

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions / Whats the Thumb Tack and Padlock icon mean?
« Last post by Kyper on January 19, 2013, 07:17:16 pm »
As many of you have noticed on several posts appears a thumb tack, or , what this means is that the topic is stickied and will therefore always appear at the top of the message board.

As many of you have also noticed on several posts appears a padlock, or , what this means is that the topic is locked and therefore no more replies can be made to it.

These icons can be scene in two places on the board for a topic. In the left column that is nothing but icons. You will notice that they are all bundled together there, and could look something like this for a post that's both locked and stickied .

The other place you will see them is in the Subject column, and there you will see them individually side by side.

There are many other icons you might see in the two left most column of the board, but most of those are self explanatory.

New or Desired Features / New or Desired Features.
« Last post by Kyper on January 19, 2013, 07:03:29 pm »
Everyone this board is for you all to let me know any new features you would like to see on the forum, or for me to let you all know about new features I have installed. SimpleMachines forums have a lot of functionality that can be added to them that improves both their performance and what you can do with them. So adding more functionality to them is quit easy, its all just a matter of finding a mod.

Now, before anyone asks, limited visibility posts is not possible. I'm sorry. No one has created that mod yet, and I lack the time myself to create one. I apologize for that inconvenience.

Beyond that, below you will find links to the main mod sites I use to enhance our forum. If you all happen to see one that you think might be good, feel free to open up a topic about it for everyone to see and discuss it.

Thanks,
Kyper

New or Desired Features / Topic Descriptions Mod.
« Last post by Kyper on January 19, 2013, 06:57:13 pm »
I have discovered a mod that will allow topic descriptions for your topics you start. What it does is add another field while you make a new topic called descriptions. When you fill out this field it will show up in the Message Board telling you whats in that field. The benefit this will have for everyone is that you will be able to list who is in the scene so everyone knows if they are in that scene or not without having to open the topic. This should save your players considerable time by allowing them to see if they are a part of a scene before they open the topic.

I will be installing this mod tomorrow after I do the forum update.

You can view what the mod does here: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3012

New Game Board / interest in Corma graveyard
« Last post by bloodstone on January 19, 2013, 01:54:36 pm »
Its been two hundred years since the Terran empire itself fell, The Galactic Federation rose from tha ashes of the collapse,
of the empire. The empire had several shipyards where it sent derelict craft, Damaged ships both friendly and
alien, Decommissioned ships and ships to damaged to repair, but useful for parts. Ships that the Empire and later the alliance
removed from service. The largest of the ship graveyards Is located in the middle of The new Federation, its near enough to trade lanes to be a viable source for parts and materials, in addition its also the location of one of the most pristine planets, know as Eden.
The official designation of Eden is actually Corma 2-3. Eden orbits a massive gas giant, and it in a perfect spot for warm weather.
The indigenous  people on the planet, are very calm and when first contact was made, they were not at all surprised or even concerned with
people from the stars. The culture they encountered on the planet was sophisticated, and had no real interest in exploring the galaxy. Almost
overnight it became the place to go to rest and relax. With the planet covered in 60% ocean there were beaches everywhere.

The Corma System  has in the planetary database the following
Corma 1 : Small hard rock body, .883 AU from Corma surface, Temperature ranges between 575°C and -111°C
Corma 2 : Gas Giant has several moons, one of them is Eden
Corma 2-3: Eden
Corma 4: Class 2 singularity, the Corma system is a binary system with a small singularity, that has been pressed into service to contain the
         Graveyard.
Orbiting Corma 4 Singularity is the ship graveyard, there are several bases around the graveyard facilities

Alliance Owned
GSC42 (Eden Star port)
CTDB0 -Ship graveyard main facility
CTDB1 - Ship grave yard ordinance Storage, Restricted access <Green level required>
CTIS - Processing center
CTCS0 - Production capable Shipyard Manufacturing facility
CTCS1 - Incomplete Shipyard Manufacturing facility
CTRS - Corma Weapons and FLT research.
Corma Sensor net Alpha - Operates around the singularity
Corma Sensor net Beta  - Operates around the shipyards
Corma Sensor net Delta - Operated and controlled by CTRS for mission profiles along corridor for FTL testing
Corma Sensor net Gamma - Operates withing the Gravyyard <Classified>
Corma Sensor net Epison - <Classified>
Corma Sensor net Zeta   -<Classified>
In addition contained within the Corma Ship graveyard are ships from over 270+ races and a total of
1,753,932 ships, not including the fighters and shuttles. Some of the ships are from Pre-Empire time and are
ancient. There are several ships that are even older that are being studied by the research teams. A number of breakthroughs
in both weapons and FTL have been attributed to the shipyards at Corma.

Several positions at the shipyard have opened up, serving at the site is a ood way to get hands on experience with older
Empire and alliance tech, as well as assist with some research operations. Duty time is 12 hours on 24 hours off, personal projects
must be approved by senior staff.
Application must have 100 base points and have at least 25 points in disadvantages (75/25 max= 100) there will be 1-5 XP awarded based on backstory.
all applicants will receive a space suit, com gear, sidearm
